LCDR Martinez, originally from Rock Springs, Wyoming, enlisted in the Navy in 1983. After recruit training and Sonar Technician (Surface) “A” school, he reported in USS WADDELL (DDG 24) as F2 Division Sonar Auxiliaries Maintenance Petty Officer. In 1985, upon completion of AN/SQS-53A “C” School, he reported in USS HARRY W. HILL (DD 986). He next reported to Fleet ASW Training Center, Pacific, for Instructor duty and became a Master Training Specialist. He attended the AN/SQQ-89(V) Integrated Towed Array Sonobuoy Sonar (ITASS) Factory maintenance school in Syracuse, New York and stood up the initial maintenance course at FLEASWTRACEN. He was initiated as a Chief Petty Officer in September of 1992. He attended Advanced Acoustic Analysis School and reported in USS BENFOLD as the ship’s ASW Specialist. LCDR Martinez was commissioned in September, 1999 through the Limited Duty Officer Program as a Surface Ordnance Officer. Upon completion of LDO/CWO indoctrination, LCDR Martinez attended the Combat Systems Maintenance Manager course and the Aegis Combat Systems Officer pipeline in Dahlgren, Virginia before reporting in USS ANTIETAM (CG 54) as Systems Test Officer in March 2000.
During deployment in 2001 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, he stood watch as Officer of the Deck (Underway), Air Warfare Coordinator, Force Air Warfare Coordinator and Tactical Action Officer. In June, 2002 LCDR Martinez reported to 1st Marine Division, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines as Naval Gunfire Liaison Officer. While there, he deployed to Iraq in 2003 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, and provided field artillery support from Kuwait to Tikrit. He reported to NAVAL WEAPONS STATION, SEAL BEACH, as the Wharf Officer in April, 2004. From December 2006 until his transfer in June 2007, he served as the Executive Officer. LCDR Martinez reported in USS NEW ORLEANS (LPD 18) in July 2007 as the Electronics Material Officer. He assumed Command of MOMAU ONE on 1 May, 2009. Personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), Combat Action and various service, unit and campaign awards. |
