Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, LCDR Ashton enlisted in the United States Navy in 1985 as a Fire Controlman.  His first sea tour was on the USS NEW JERSEY (BB-62), home ported in Long Beach, CA, as a Tomahawk Cruise Missile technician responsible for the Armored Box Launchers and Missiles.  His next command was that of the USS MISSOURI (BB-63) where he again served as a Tomahawk technician, however this time it was aboard the “Mighty Mo” on her deployment to the Persian Gulf for “Desert Shield” and “Desert Storm”.  He then served as the Leading Petty Officer for the Standard Missile Production and Maintenance Site at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, Ca. He transferred to the pre-commissioning unit for the USS STETHEM (DDG-63) as a Petty Officer First Class.  Aboard the STETHEM he was selected and initiated as a Chief Petty Officer and then selected to the Limited Duty Officer Program.  His first commissioned tour was aboard the USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63) homeported out of Yokosuka, Japan, where he served as the Ordnance Quality Assurance Officer, the Elevator Repair Officer and finally the Assistant Weapons Officer.  It was aboard the KITTY HAWK that he achieved his Surface Warfare qualification and achieved the rank of LTJG.  Upon his completing his tour in Japan he transferred to Charleston, SC, where he served as the Executive Officer for Mobile Mine Assembly Unit ELEVEN for three years.  While at Unit ELEVEN he brought the Unit from a training facility to a service shop by incorporating the MK-65 Quickstrike and MK-67 SLMM production and maintenance lines.  LT Ashton then transferred to Manama, Bahrain to serve as the Weapons Officer for Naval Special Warfare Unit THREE.  For three years, he managed all of the ordnance for Special Warfare in the CENTCOM AOR.  Responsible for the logistics, maintenance and storage of the ammunition for NSW required that he spend a lot of the time away from Bahrain and in the combat zones, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa in direct support of the Global War on Terror.  It also required a lot of time in supported areas such as Kuwait, Qatar, Uzbekistan and Dubai.  Following this tour he transferred to NSW Logistics Support Unit ONE out of Coronado, Ca, where he served as the Ordnance Officer.  He reported to Commander Mobile Mine Assembly Group as the Chief Staff Officer in October, 2007.

Personal Awards consist of the Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards) and Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards).  His wife resides in Lincoln, Ne, and his two children are living in Arkansas where they have children of their own.
